Crunchy Granola

My mom and I made the yummiest granola last month. Here is the recipe with my modifications:

4.5 cups rolled oats (I used 1/2 Kamut flakes)
1 cup sunflower seeds
3/4 cups white sesame seeds (I left these out)
3/4 cups apple sauce
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1/3 cup maple syrup
1/4 cup honey (or agave syrup)
3/4 cup organic light brown sugar (I always half the sugar in recipes, so I used about 1/3 C bs but you could also use ground Sucanat or rapadura)
2 cups whole almonds (I used pecans)
1 teaspoon sea salt
2 tablespoons sunflower oil (coconut oil...of course)
2 cups dried cherries (not a fan, raisins would be yummy though)

1. Preheat oven to 325F.
2.In a large mixing bowl, mix everything together except the cherries.
3. Spread the mixture out on two large baking sheets and place in oven.
4. Several times during baking, use a spatula to stir the mix around to ensure even baking.
5. Bake until granola is evenly golden-anywhere from 40 to 60 minutes, depending on your oven
6. Let cool, stir in cherries, and store in airtight bags or containers.Makes approximately 10 cups.

This looks delicious! I am going to try it...even though I don't know how to pronounce some of the ingredients, let alone know what they are!

I am really excited to try this. My kids don't eat granola, but my DH has started to take my homemade granola to work with him to eat for breakfast. Thanks for the recipe!
