Our Trip to Puerto Rico

The view from our apt.

Cannon and I have been married for 8 years and have never been on a trip together....alone. We've been on a couple road trips with the kids, but when you're sleeping in a dingy motel or at a truck stop and the kids are throwin up in the car its not too romantical. Ya know?

So we saved and saved and saved our pennies and we went on our first honeymoon trip!

We decided on PR mainly because its very cheap to get to and also to stay (thank you hotwire and craigslist...who I love almost as much as Can)

We booked a nice looking place overlooking the ocean and despite the 2 cockroaches and 1 power outage, we were happy with it.

Our main source of happiness was the cable!! We don't have a TV so to have cable was like hitting the motherlode! We were so entranced by the 100 channels we only went out to get dinner and thats it.

Too bad, PR looked so nice from the windows, but who can resist 3 hours straight of Man Vs Food? I guess we'll have to do a 2nd honeymoon sans cable and then we'll get out and sight see a bit.

OK for all of you who thought I was serious...you're lame. Seriously we had so much fun. It was so nice to just be with Can without getting woken (is that a word? it doesn't look right) up by the kids at 6 every morning. But we are early risers by nature so the latest we got up the whole time was 7:30. But still, to get up on your own is always a treat :)

I threw my food snobbery out the window and ahem er enjoyed all of the fried food. Everything was deep fried. And there were Burger Kings all over. The grocery store was just as pricey as Dagostino's so we felt right at home.

Old San Juan

We visited Old San Juan 3 times and couldn't get enough of the beauty and all of the quaint streets and shops. I LOVE it there. The fort was a blast and it was so fun goofing off with my sweet man.

We rented a scooter which was a blast and visited some nearby towns where we played (or sunbathed) at the beach and ate...fried food. Fried fish, crab, meat, chicken, cheese, bananas. We had a lovely dish called Piconono. It was actually good. I thought I was just ordering platanos, but was pleasantly suprised that it was actually Plantains, seasoned ground beef, and cheese all wrapped up and...deep fried. Everything was so cheap so we just kept ordering this or that to try it and before I knew what was happening I was having chest pains.

fried cheese beauty

They also have an island favorite called Mofongos. Most restaurants have them and Can was in love. Green plantains mashed with garlic, piled into a mound and stuffed with stew. Many of the restaraunts had NY prices so we had to find the more set back ones so we could stick to our budget. Which we DID by the way!

Mofongos

We got so tan, but of course the gray, bleak cold nasty windy dry NYC weather sucked it out of us and now over a week later, our tans are fading fast. Sniff sniff.

Check out our tanness...also the cool waterfall in the El Yunque Rain Forest

Funny story, I went to get my ~ahem~ waxed before the trip. YOUCH! The girl who did it was really nice, but as soon as she walked in the room she started grilling me. Where do you live? What do you do? How old are you? Where are you from? Etc. I was like dude, just wax ma hoo ha and be done with it. Its already awkward enough without the chit chat. Well it turns out that she has only been here for a couple years and is going to be a radiologist. imagine that.

We snorkeled, walked, talked, jogged, sunbathed, swam and had a beautiful time. And of course we couldn't have done it without my wonderful mom who came and stayed with the kids. Thanks mom, you are the BEST!

And Can Man...I loved spending every minute for a week with you! It was so fun and you are amazing. xoxo

And this is by far my most favoritest pitcher of all the pitchers from our trippy....

How fun! I think honeymoons need to occur regularly and that was a great idea!

THat sounds like so much fun! Kalani and I are leaving in the morning to go to the BAHAMAS! I am sooo excited. oh, yesterday, I had my "uh-huh" waxed for the first time ever. It was so awkward! The lady said that it was easier if I didn't wear any undies at all, so there I am laying on the table... yeah.

I love PR. DId you go see the bioluminescent bay? We thought it was so amazing and spent out entire trip talking about how we wanted to buy a summer home there, when we "make" it.

hi kassie!

So I was just going through my email and saw your comment again in my inbox about VBAC's. I had saved it all this time I guess! Anmyway I just wanted to let you know what I appreciate your comment and was not offended. It actually made me think quite a bit and I have been doing a lot of research and am determined to try a VBAC. Getting cut open again for no real medical reason scares me to death! So I am switching Dr's because my current Dr. is not supportive of it. Anyway just thought I would let you know how it is turning out. Sorry I never responded and thank you for your comment! It looks like you guys are doing well!
