I can't believe there is nothing blog worthy going on in our lives! We went to the brooklyn Aquarium today and met some new friends and definitely skipped the beach! If anyone has every been to Coney Island you know what I'm talkin about! Glass, trash, grime and yuck!
Its E's spring break this week and we are taking off to DC for a couple days to help my mom plant a very small garden. But since we'll be there for most of the summer I'd like to have a project to work on. So if anyone has any tips on how to keep an organic garden I'd love to hear them!
So we're taking a new bus service called Bolt Bus and if you book on certain days it is as low as $1!! Seriously! And even if you buy a ticket from the driver it will never be above $20...not too shabby. I will give you all the exciting details when I return...I know you all can't wait!
UPDATE RE: SLEEP TRAINING
Mission was NOT a success.
Basically we tried for one week and boy was this boy persistent! It was so sad but we were sticking to our guns but after a few days he was so anxious at bedtime that he didn't even want to NURSE! If any of you know my boy you know that he is always attached at the boob. So I made a deal with him that he could continue sleeping with us if he promised not to nurse all night and so far it has worked out pretty well. He usually wakes at around 5am and then goes back to sleep boob in mouth for the next couple of hours...I can live with that considering that he goes down around 7pm. So everybody wins....for now.

Orgasmic Birth
Hmmm....I know what you're thinking. Strange name for a blog post. Its actually the name of a new documentary by a NJ doula and doula trainer Debra Pascali-Bonaro. My midwife Valeriana is featured in it. It looks great and she says that it is the answer to the question that is raised in Ricki Lake's documentary The Business of Being Born. I love these documentaries that are getting the word out that birth can be NORMAL!! It is not like on TV or in the movies....a scary traumatic event. Yes it is the hardest work you will EVER do, but it can also be a beautiful spiritual experience.
I was privileged to attend two births this week. One was in a hospital and one was at home. Both babies came into this world with no drugs in them They were very different experiences but both were peaceful and beautiful.
I am so in awe of the power that we as women hold within us. I couldn't believe how strong those women were. Giving birth is HARD work. Our bodies are so amazing and giving life is such a wonderful gift from God. I am so sad that there are some women who have had birth experiences that have left them with no faith in the process or in their bodies. They were told by doctors that they are "too small" to ever give birth vaginally or that their body just doesn't know how to give birth without technology. Or maybe they were belittled or made to feel like they couldn't possibly give birth without drugs. I have seen too often women being argued with and made to feel stupid because they wanted to give birth naturally...why would anyone argue with a laboring woman??!! Something needs to happen with this country's maternity system...other countries have much better outcomes and lower intervention rates than we. Why is that ? Is it because we are such a litigious society? I think that that is most of the reason. But I also think it is because we have lost faith in our bodies and ourselves. We doubt that we are strong enough to do what we were made to do!

Birth Survey
Just wanted to let all my blogging peeps know about this birth survey. It was designed to help women make a good choice about her health care provider. It is totally anonymous and the results will help other women find out about their particular care provider and hospital. Sometimes Dr's are not always up front about their stats and beliefs of birth and we don't find out until its too late. You can rate your birth experience and Dr, midwife and hospital.

Mo Willems!!
Since New York City is the coolest place to live we got to do a really cool thing today...that's right folks we actually got to MEET Mo Willems!!! How cool! He just happens to live in Brooklyn so he had a book signing at Bryant Park. I was very star struck and could barely talk as he gazed into my eyes. I did manage to correct him on my daughters name and told him we were big fans. No but seriously E was sooooooooooo excited! She loves the pigeon books and Knuffle bunny which she pronounces Kunuffle bunny(we have this discussion quite often but she insists that you pronounce the K) He was very sweet and played a high five game with her. I would post the video that we took but I have no clue how to post it. Oh and he wrote in her book "E Rocks" although she really wanted him to write "thanks for reading" E loves to read and write and asks I wonder what the author was thinking....so cute! She actually just wrote a book called "all about birth" and talks about the different birthing options women have...hah! C says she is my little foot soldier. Oh and she saw a girl who we think is THE Trixie from Knuffle Bunny, but it wasn't actually confirmed.
