V-Day

Not to be confused with VD day as Can likes to say. Ahem. Moving on.

My mom sent us these beauties from Sherries Berries. They were delish. Thanks mama! We then proceeded to eat some lovely grass fed steaks and caprese salad and potato skins. Can made it all, thanks babe. Our first V day we went all out. We had only been together about 6 weeks but we were already so smitten we bought each other expensive gifts. That was the first and last time we bought gifts for Vday :)

Winter

Have I mentioned how incredible this winter was? We only had a handful of cold days where I was cursing myself for living here. That's not bad considering I usually spend 2 straight months cursing the city. But this winter? It has been magical. This was the first weekend in March with no coats! We have been to the park all throughout the winter, how great is that?

I love this park in Union Square. If you haven't been check it out.

Downton Abbey

Can we please speak honestly about Downton Abbey? The first season was stellar. Top notch and all that jazz.

Season number 2? It stinks! I'm sorry. I know there are die hard fans. I myself was a big fan, but let's be honest people the second season is just silliness and tom foolery.

The acting is getting worse, the stories are SO contrived and I just don't feel any chemistry at all between the characters. (Don't even get me started on the awkwardness of the kiss between Lord Grantham and the maid. And what is up with Cybil and the driver?? I'm just not feelin it.) I feel like I am watching an NBC soap opera which are way worse than the ABC ones BTW. Its saving grace though, are the accents (and of course Maggie Smith) particularly Anna, Daisy and the Evil one.

Farewell DA. It was nice knowin ya.

Warrior

This was THEE best movie I have seen in a long while. It was SO moving, my heart ached and I cried. Twice. And let's not get started on Tom Hardy. Have you seen Wuthering Heights yet?

Priceless

I usually write all my posts in one night and then schedule them so it always looks like I'm really behind. But this was just too beautiful not to share immediately :)

This afternoon Elyse, Evan and I had some lovely alone time together. It was so sweet.

Yes it has been a challenge having my kids spaced far apart much like it would have been had they been close together. But it's moments like this that I am so glad I have an older daughter to share in the joys of having a baby around the house. He love his big sister so much. I remember just doting on Lillian and Hyrum when they were little, they were (are) so special to me :) (I'm 13 and 16 years older than them)

Accountable Kids......

has changed my life! For reals people. This program is A-mazing! On a scale of 1-5 I would definitely give it a 5!

So the basic idea behind this program is that you teach your kids to be independent and responsible for themselves and their choices. They earn tickets everyday for doing basic chores or "core chores" So in the morning they have to get dressed, eat breakfast, make lunch, brush teeth, say prayers and read scriptures. This is just an example, each family can tailor it to their needs. And they have to do it on their own. If they do it then they get a ticket which is redeemable for a privilege such as playing a computer game, going to a friends house etc. The it repeats in the afternoon and evening with different core chores. If the child gets all of the tickets for the day then they get a sticker to put on the date card. 10 stickers earns you a date with mom or dad.

The aspect that I have loved the most is the Privilege Pass. The privilege pass is used to eliminate negative behavior. The thing that we struggle with the most at our house (although I'm sure some would argue that there are many things that we struggle with) is fighting. Specifically in the morning when they have a lot of time on their hands (they get up at 6) So, if you don't fight in the morning before we leave the house you get a privilege pass. It is redeemable for any privilege that is extra cool and that they value even more than regular privileges. Since we don't watch any shows during the week, if they get their pass, which is not every day, then they can watch 20 min of a show. They are SO motivated to do it because they LOVE their tube time!

They can also do extra chores which are chores you get paid for. Our kids have loved doing this program and we have loved the results! Elyse is a kid who loves and NEEDS structure. She bounces out of bed at 6 and by 7:00 she is playing a computer game for 10min. Levi definitely needs more work but he loves how good he feels when he does it all by himself.

Please check out the website, it seriously has changed the spirit in our home. The kids are happier and everyone knows what is expected of them. It is AWESOME!!  http://accountablekids.com/
