Makeover

E is in DC for a few days (we'll join her on Thurs) NeeNee gave her a gorgeous makeover today. Thanks Lil, now my 7 year old looks like a very short 20 year old going out on the town ;)

Missionaries

Sadly I am all out of pictures. Our camera is gone forever. We are guessing that L threw it in the trash. We have turned our little apt. upside down and it is nowhere to be found. Meanwhile I will post some old pictures from a picture CD that I found. The only one we have pre digital camera. ( I was too cheap to get them every time I had pictures developed.) But right now I am eating a grapefruit and too lazy to go and get it. So in the interim enjoy my sisters latest post about REAL milk :)

Halloween

This is so late!

Hannah Montana, a little too sexy but it was because the only clean jeans she had were a little too big and sagged.

Arrrrgh... our little pirate....or orthodox Jew with a bloody sword. We kept getting asked what he was supposed to be so apparently I didn't do a good enough job with his costume...but hey it was free! I'm sure my kids will grow up and tell their therapists about all of their homemade hand me down costumes. (check out the sidebar for 2007's costume)

Halloween is always fun because its the one time when my kids can go nutso with the candy. We do have it occasionally at other times but very small amounts. Anyway they go crazy for one day and then its gonzo.

I won the LOTTERY!!!

OK so it wasn't the REAL lottery but it was the Wicked lottery which truthfully is almost as good. When the guy called my name we all screamed...we were the only ones who screamed. It was almost like a Dr's office waiting room. No enthusiasm whatsoever. Oh my name got called? Thats nice, I guess I'll go wait in this line over here now. Seriously, major lamos.

I tagged along with Karley and her friend from UT. Since K had seen it already her friend Tiff and I went. Anyway, I won and we were excted and then because it was the some kind o anniversary they were calling 2 extra people. When Karley's name got called we just about peed ourselves. Come to find out (when we were trying to pay for her tickets) that she won.....a book. We got moted. Whatev, she got a book and we got to see wicked in the front row for 25 bones.

This is the stage. That is the "curtain" being raised. My knees were up against the orchestra stand. So friggin awesome. Oh and the play was awesome. The girl who played Gahhlinda was Laura Woyasz...she was A-mazing.

Cord Clamping

I saw this great blog article by an OB/GYN about delayed cord clamping, a practice that has been done for who knows how long by the known world and continues to be done by most midwives. But now that OB's are talking about it hopefully it will be something that will be looked at more and accepted more by Dr's. Recently I had a client tell me that her Dr wouldn't "allow" delayed cord clamping, simply stating that it was extremely dangerous to the baby. Well, during the birth, his partner who attended the birth was MORE than happy to allow the cord to finish pulsing before cutting. When we told him that his partner was adamantly opposed to it he said "No way, really? He must've been joking" Oy.

Here is the article. I am going to paste below my favorite part of the article :)

I wonder at times why delayed cord clamping has not become the standard already; why by and large we have not heeded the literature. It is sad to say that I believe it is because the champions of this practice have not been doctors, but midwives, and sometimes we are influenced by prejudice. Clearly, midwives and doctors tend to have some different ideas about how labor should be managed, but in the end data is data. We championed evidence based medicine, but tend to ignore evidence when it comes from the wrong source, which is unfair. It is fair to critique the research and the methods used to write it, but it shouldn’t matter who the author is. In this case, Mercer and other midwives have done the world a favor by scientifically addressing this issue, and their data deserves serious consideration.

Snow Globe

This is L's "lemon juice" (or a fake picture of it b/c I can't find my camera) We don't know why he calls it this, but he does and he loves it. When he can't find it he asks "where's my wemon juice?" and upon finding it: "Oh, hehe ders my wemon juice"

Fieldtrip

E's class took a fieldtrip to the Union Square Farmers Market, one of my favorite places in the city so of course I had to chaperone.

When I got to school with L Miss Krady was a bit (very) nervous that I wouldn't be able to keep track of one extra child.....one extra 7 year old. hmmm....she must not be a parent :)

Eric P was my extra kid and of course he didn't go wandering off...aren't I a good babysitter? And just for the record I was the only ONLY parent who didn't lose track of any of their kids at one time or another. Boo Ya. I myself was a little unnerved during the subway ride when the boys were acting like houligans and their mothers weren't saying anything. Oh well at least they didn't get any parenting advice from any nosy NY'ers. (I have a great nosy NYer story to come)

One day I told L that we needed to say a prayer on the food. After looking at me with a puzzled look on his face this is how I found him a minute later.....literally saying a prayer on his food.

Labor of Love

I don't know if I posted this before (too lazy to look) but this is just a nice little blurb about a midwife who lives and practices here in the city. She wrote a book called Labor of Love which I am excited to read.

We went to the Y to swim and L hiked his pants all the way up....just like an old man :) Also he looks so much like me as a kid in this one....family of mine what do you think?

Just kidding....sort of. This was the only picture where they weren't blinking. We went to this cute little organic pizza place that was actually pretty yummy and the kids loved it. There were even pillows on the benches, which of course I stressed over. I could just see a little greasy saucy hand grabbing at them.

Rice Rice baby

The night we went to see Omar sing we decided to make it a girls date. We ran across this little shop and thought we'd give it a try. The highlight wasn't the 250 different types of rice pudding but it was the group of bikers dudes from Queens (at least they looked like they were) that were there as well. We had driven the scooter there so we instantly gained some points with them when they saw our helmets.

This dude sat at the entrance and while eating his rice pudding said hi to all the girls that walked by. I only felt special for about 20 seconds until he said it to the next girl. Poor me.

Notice a. the killer awesome helmet with the built in mohawk and b. our boring ones on the end.

This guy asked us to take a picture of him and his friends so we asked them to take one of us. And lucky for us he jumped in at the last second. And no, sadly he isn't squatting down to be our height.

Here is the pudding. My review: Good for the first 2 bites and then toooo much pudding.

My Homie Omie

My friend Omar has a band called Crash Boom Bang. I hadn't heard him sing since his high school days when he would sing "only you" but he would replace your name with you. When I heard he was coming to NYC I knew I had to see him sing. So Karley and I headed down to the lower east side to a teeny tiny little bar. He did an acoustic set and he was awesome! It was so fun to catch up with my homie Omie (which is what I used to call him cuz I'm coo like that) Anyway, I love his CD and the girl that he tours around with is Stacy Clark and she is amazing too. On a side note the guy who produced his CD is the singer from the Plain White Tees. Yeah and we bailed when they started making people buy drinks...5 bucks for seltzer? No gracias.
