I loved the book Birth: The surprising history of how we are born by Tina Cassidy. It is all about the history of childbirth and how women were looked after by only midwives. (love that idea!) And about how once men came into the picture so did gruesome practices and horrible infections etc. Of course there were some tales of untrained midwives messing with things, but mostly it was the men that didn't know how things went because they weren't trained in birth. It is a great book. Anywhoo, the author Tina at the end concluded that she was on the fence about her next birth as her first was a typical scenario...induction leading to csection. Well i just found her blog and she did have a homebirth! I don't know why I was excited but I guess its because after all the research that she did for her book she realized that the best choice was a homebirth.

I am glad that the hubbies have been introduced into the delivery process though. I don't don't what I would have done without Dave counting me through those contractions.
I guess I should clarify that it was male drs not husbands. Male drs started coming into the scene in the late 1800's and husbands in the late 60's. Sorry for the confusion : )
